What to Send Your Video Editor (and Why It Speeds Everything Up)
A clear hand-off means fewer revisions and faster delivery. Here’s the checklist we give every new client.
The fastest edits start before anyone opens a timeline. When the footage, notes and references arrive together, your editor can spend their time making the video better instead of asking questions.
Here’s what we ask every new client to send.
1. All the footage, clearly named
Upload everything in one shared folder — Google Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer all work. Keep the original files (don’t export or compress them first) and group them into folders such as A-camera, B-roll and Audio if you recorded separately.
2. A short brief
It doesn’t need to be long. A few lines answering these questions is enough:
- What is the video about, and who is it for?
- Where will it be published?
- How long should it be?
- Is there a deadline?
3. One or two reference videos
“Make it feel like this” is one of the most useful notes you can give. Share a video whose pacing, captions or tone you like — it doesn’t have to be in your niche.
4. Your brand assets
For brands and businesses, send your logo files, fonts and colour codes, plus any intro or outro you always use. For creators, send your existing caption style, lower-thirds or channel graphics so every video feels consistent.
5. Notes on anything that must stay — or go
If there’s a line you fluffed, a product that can’t be shown or a joke that has to stay in, say so up front. It saves a whole revision round.
6. Music preferences
Tell us the mood you want, or send tracks you have a licence for. We can source licensed music if you don’t have any.
The result: fewer revisions, faster delivery
With a complete hand-off, most of our edits are delivered within 48–72 hours and need only light revisions. Want the checklist as a template? Email us and we’ll send it over.
